Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP)

Welcome to the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) at Dr. Lewis D. Stallworth, Sr. Charter School, Inc. Since 2011, our program has been committed to providing students with meaningful opportunities for academic growth, enrichment, and personal development in a safe, supportive, and engaging environment.

Our program serves students in transitional kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade and operates every school day:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday:** Noon to 6:00 p.m.

In addition to our daily after-school program, we also offer:

  • Saturday School: Providing students with opportunities for academic intervention, tutoring, assignment completion, and attendance recovery.
  • ELOP Summer School: Throughout the month of June, featuring small-group academic instruction, hands-on learning experiences, educational enrichment, and exciting recreational activities.

Our Program

The Expanded Learning Opportunities Program utilizes classrooms and our Legacy Building to provide students with a variety of engaging educational and enrichment experiences. While activities are designed to meet the unique needs of our students, every aspect of our program is centered on academic achievement, social-emotional development, leadership, and character building.

Our mission is to create a safe, nurturing environment where students can continue learning beyond the regular school day while developing confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and lifelong learning skills.

Daily Program Activities

Each day is thoughtfully structured to provide a balance of academics, enrichment, physical activity, and social engagement.

  • Student Check-In: At the end of the regular school day, students report directly to the after school program for check-in. This process ensures a safe and organized transition while allowing staff to accurately monitor attendance and account for every student. Maintaining an accurate attendance record also enables staff to respond quickly and effectively in the event of an emergency.
  • Homework & Academic Support: Academic success is one of our highest priorities. Students receive **a minimum of 45 minutes of dedicated homework assistance** each day in a quiet, supportive learning environment. Our staff and tutors provide individualized guidance, helping students complete assignments, strengthen academic skills, and build confidence in their learning.
  • Physical Activity: Students participate in **45–60 minutes of daily moderate-to-vigorous physical activity** through structured games, sports, fitness activities, and recreational play. Physical activity promotes healthy lifestyles while developing teamwork, coordination, leadership, sportsmanship, and overall well-being.
  • Healthy Afternoon Snack: To support student health and learning, every participant receives a nutritious afternoon snack. Our snack program encourages healthy eating habits while helping students stay energized and focused throughout the afternoon.
  • Enrichment & Leadership Opportunities: Students participate in **at least 45 minutes of daily enrichment activities** designed to inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Through project-based learning, literacy activities, STEM projects, arts, leadership development, and collaborative learning experiences, students strengthen both academic and life skills.
    Our enrichment offerings include a variety of clubs and activities such as:
